The reason I chose to specialize in marriage and couples counseling is….:

I originally chose to work in the field of individual psychology, but through research and education many years ago found marriage counseling to be even more effective for individuals than individual therapy alone. Once I started working with couples, also many years ago, I found that I had quite a knack for it, as well as a passion for it.

What you most enjoy about working with couples is….:

Although couples work is often difficult, it doesn't have to be arduous. I believe in helping couples get back to the mindset of when they were most in love, or most securely attached, and give them experiences, including, or especially, experiences in the therapy room that can and, more often than not, DO help them back to a secure attachment, or forward to one if they have never really felt a secure attachment with their partner.

Are there kinds of couples or issues that you work with a lot?:

Couples generally see me after infidelity of all forms, the feeling of falling out of love, or situations where divorce has been put on the table. I specialize in working with professional couples where one or both also work in a helping field: nurses, doctors, therapists, and so on.

What are the steps to becoming a client in my practice?:

Ideally, couples will first visit my website, www.nicholaswilkensphd.com, to get a better idea of who I am and how I work, and then contact me through the email portion of the contact page.
