In my 30+ years as a therapist, I have worked with many couples who have lost their sense of connection, passion and commitment. Often, too-busy lives, chronic stress, recurring conflict or family pressures have taken a toll on their intimacy, creating isolation and crisis. An opportunity arises when a couple addresses old patterns of blame, anger and resentment. Couples Counseling is all about practicing new ways of communication. Its about taking responsibility. Its about rebuilding trust and feeling safe in your vulnerabilities, while you learn the practical skills and the art of loving.
When hope returns -- When the couple engages in repairing what's been broken -- When each person can feel and see healthy and precious qualities in themselves and their partner -- Or when it becomes clear that they are needing to release the coupled relationship and move on towards separation. Even this can be a healing time.
Couples often come to me when a challenging situation puts strain on their relationship, such as: serious illness or death in the family, an affair, infertility or miscarriage, contemplating divorce, stepfamily stress. I also work with many couples who are intentionally preparing for a marriage or a commitment ceremony. They want to deepen their understanding of each other as they begin this phase of their life together.
I offer a free in-person consultation to begin our process and get to know each other. You can reach me via contact info above. After I hear from you, I will follow-up with a phone call so we can discuss relevant details, answer any questions you may have and set up an appointment.
