The work I did with kids early in my career seemed to always lead me in the direction of marital issues between the parents. Children are amazing at automatically absorbing the stress in their parents lives without consciousness. I found that helping the parents identify and effectively deal with the stressors in their lives, including in their marriages, was enormously helpful to the children. Out of those experiences I began to focus more from the top down so to speak, from the marriage dynamics perspective.
No two couples are alike. The challenges of helping couples figure out and implement paths to removing barriers to greater commitment and connection, including a stronger sense of knowing themselves and each other, is extremely satisfying work. In fact, I think I have the best job in the world!
I work with most couple issues, including high conflict couples, sexual function and desire issues, infidelity, pornography issues, lack of closeness and connection, step-family issues, parenting issues, chemical health problems, mood disorder concerns such as depression and anxiety, post-traumatic stress, commitment questions and concerns, sexual orientation concerns and questions.
