The reason I chose to specialize in marriage and couples counseling is….:

I began studying psychology and fell in love with working with couples and families early in my career. For 30 plus years, all of my continuing education has been in couples and family work. For the past 10 years, I have been using Terry Real's Relational Life Therapy model (RLT) for couples therapy. It is so satisfying and rewarding to help couples and families create significant, positive, and long lasting change in their lives.

What you most enjoy about working with couples is….:

I enjoy the "story lines" of the therapy process. I like seeing how the individual's stories intertwine to become the couple's story. When a couple comes to therapy, they want to change their story line--to create a new future story line. I like helping each person look at their family of origin story and to learn how this part of their story influences their couples story. With effective therapeutic strategies and artful interventions, my couples change their story line--sometimes beyond what they imagined was possible. I love facilitating and witnessing the process of change unfold for my couples.

Are there kinds of couples or issues that you work with a lot?:

I've been doing clinical work for 34 years so I have seen a wide array of issues that couples present in therapy. I work with infidelity, pre-divorce issues, parenting teens, uncoupling, post divorce issues, and the good old basics of helping couples function better.

What are the steps to becoming a client in my practice?:

Call me or email me. I prefer to have a brief phone conversation with one or both partners to ensure there is a good fit. Typically, my clients get a good idea of who I am and how I work in an initial call.
