The reason I chose to specialize in marriage and couples counseling is….:

Life can be made so rich with healthy, thriving relationships. These can also be very hard to create, as there are many common reasons that relationships get off track. I have worked in the field of mental health and counseling for over 25 yeas, and the thing that I get most passionate helping people with is sorthing through and improving their relationships. If I can help people move out of a place of pain to joy in their relationships, that brings me a tremendous sense of purpose and satisfaction.

What you most enjoy about working with couples is….:

I love the complex dynamics that couples bring into session. There are many common threads that can be easily seen, and at the same time each couple brings their unique combination of circumstances. I love helping couples unpack these things as a collaborative process with both people in the room.

Are there kinds of couples or issues that you work with a lot?:

I see a lot of couples who no longer get along and they are tired of arguing. I also see a good number of couples who don't know how to really talk to each other and are afraid of arguments erupting, so they don't talk about much of substance at all. I also see a good number of couples where one partner is not sure if they want to stay in the marriage/relationship. I couples who are in serious distress, as well as couples who only have a few tweaks to make. Communication, intimacy, defining a self within the relationship are some areas I focus on.
